If I had to skip one topic, I’d totally go with enzymes and enzyme kinetics. It’s not just the posttranscriptional stuff that’s complicated, it’s the whole “Michaelis-Menten” and all the graphs. The math involved makes my brain hurt! Honestly, it feels like we end up learning a lot of theory that doesn’t always seem to connect with real-world applications, at least not right away. I get that it’s fundamental to understanding biological reactions, but it just seems like we end up memorizing a ton of equations instead of actually understanding them. I don’t think it’s unfair that we have to master it because, in the long run, it’s part of the foundation. But man, I wouldn’t mind skipping it just for my sanity.
