TREATMENT OPTIONS BY STAGE


Stage I Pancreatic Cancer

Stage IIA Pancreatic Cancer

  • Surgery with or without chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
  • Radiation therapy with chemotherapy.
  • Palliative surgery to bypass blocked areas in ducts or the small intestine.

Stage IIB Pancreatic Cancer

  • Surgery with or without chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
  • Radiation therapy with chemotherapy.
  • Palliative surgery to bypass blocked areas in ducts or the small intestine.

Stage III Pancreatic Cancer

  • Surgery with or without chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
  • Radiation therapy with chemotherapy.
  • Palliative surgery or stent placement to bypass blocked areas in ducts or the small intestine.

Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer

  • Chemotherapy.
  • Palliative treatments for pain, such as nerve blocks, and other supportive care.
  • Palliative surgery or stent placement to bypass blocked areas in ducts or the small intestine.

Glossary

  • Palliative therapy: Treatment given to relieve the symptoms and reduce the suffering caused by cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
